Make-up tutorial: a twist on the classic smokey eye

ARTISTRY

New year, new stunning make-up looks designed for your skin tone

Do you have a go-to make-up look that you wear every day? With the new year here, now is the perfect time to try something different! For this tutorial, we’re going to play with the colours of the classic smokey eye based on shades that match your skin tone: warm beige and brown hues for those with warm undertones, and plum for those with cool undertones. People with neutral undertones can try both. But first, it’s vital to figure out what your undertone is so you know which colours look best on you.

What’s your undertone?

Warm – Skin that has a golden or olive hue, with wrist veins that appear more green than blue. Warm types can usually tan easily under the sun’s rays.

Cool – Skin has a pink or rosy hue, with wrist veins that appear more blue than green. Cool skin types tend to redden or burn in the sun more easily.

Neutral – Skin that has an even-toned, neutral hue which is neither pink nor golden, and with wrist veins that appear as partly green and partly blue. A mix of both warm and cool undertones.

Warm smokey eye

  1. Apply the pink beige shade from the ARTISTRY SIGNATURE COLORTM Eye Shadow Quad – Pink Chocolate as a base coat from the lash line to the brow.

  2. Apply the metallic, medium brown from the lash line up until you almost reach the crease. Cover the entire lid, from inner to outer corner. Apply the same shade on the lower lash line, also from corner to corner.

  3. Blend the darkest chocolate brown in the crease, starting in the outer corner and fading in.

  4. Trace your upper and lower waterline with ARTISTRY SIGNATURE COLOR Longwearing Eye Pencil. A smudged effect works too.

  5. Apply ARTISTRY SIGNATURE EYESTM Volume Mascara to top and bottom lashes.

  6. Top off your look with ARTISTRY SIGNATURE COLOR Blush – Golden Light and ARTISTRY SIGNATURE COLOR Light Up Lip Gloss – Pink Nude for a hint of shimmer.

Cool smokey eye

  1. Apply the pearly pink shade from the ARTISTRY SIGNATURE COLOR Eye Shadow Quad – Plumberry as a base coat from the lash line to the brow.

  2. Apply the metallic violet shade from the lash line up until you almost reach the crease. Cover the entire lid, from inner to outer corner. Apply the same shade on the lower lash line, also from corner to corner.

  3. Blend the deep plum in the crease, starting in the outer corner and fading in.

  4. Trace your upper and lower waterline with ARTISTRY SIGNATURE COLOR Longwearing Eye Pencil. A smudged effect is okay.

  5. Apply ARTISTRY SIGNATURE EYES Volume Mascara to top and bottom lashes.

  6. Top off your look with ARTISTRY SIGNATURE COLOR Blush – Soft Rose and ARTISTRY SIGNATURE COLOR Lipstick – Silk Lilac for a hint of colour.
