5 ways to boost your winter immunity

Nutrition & Wellbeing

Stay healthy during the cold season

Nothing kills magical winter vibes faster than a cold. Glistening snow, sleigh bells and heart-warming hot chocolate simply can’t compete with stuffy noses or sore throats. Sadly, winter is a season when diseases thrive. Don’t fall victim: here are five top tips to help you boost your winter immunity, plus how NUTRILITETM can help:

1. Be proactive

The time to act is now! Don’t sit around waiting for the bugs to catch you. Put together a good immunity regimen while you and your family are still healthy. Once it’s going, it’ll be easy to maintain throughout winter, which is important since cold and flu viruses are constantly changing and mutating.

2. Eat, drink and be healthy

Nutrient-rich foods like nuts, seeds, legumes, mushrooms, spinach, and colourful fruits and vegetables are a great source of immunity-building vitamins, like A, C, D and E, and minerals, like zinc. Throw onions, garlic, ginger, cayenne pepper and turmeric into the mix for an additional boost, and make sure to drink lots of water, because it helps to transport white blood cells wherever they’re needed.

3. Work up a sweat

Chilly mornings may not inspire you to exercise, but working out actually increases your immune function, strengthens your body and helps you to sleep better – all very good reasons to get out and about. You don’t have to push too hard; even a long walk outside will help to keep the bugs at bay.

4. Catch some sleep

When you close your eyes for the night, your body has a chance to repair and renew cells, ensuring they’re ready for whatever the season has in store. Skip your beauty rest and, according to a study conducted by Carnegie Mellon University , you’re more likely to succumb to one of the 200 viruses that cause the common cold.

5. Get more vitamin C

Thanks to its powerful antioxidant effects, vitamin C is an immune system superhero, which comes in particularly handy in winter. During the colder months, look to fruits and vegetables like Brussels sprouts, kale, red cabbage and Spanish clementines. Worried that you’re not getting enough? You can bridge the gap with daily supplements. NUTRILITE offers a range of vitamin C options suitable for the whole family.

Best of all, each of the NUTRILITE Vitamin C food supplements are powered by one of the richest sources of this vitamin – acerola cherries – which are grown and harvested on Nutrilite sustainable farms in harmony with nature, using chemical-free, sustainable farming methods.

For adults, NUTRILITE Vitamin C Plus Extended Release provides up to eight hours of vitamin C support. For children, NUTRILITE Chewable Vitamin C, with 30 mg of vitamin C, is the perfect way to get little ones age four onwards to take their vitamins. This format is also ideal for adults who prefer chewable tablets.

Now that you know how to keep the bugs away, get set for a season of fun!
