Looking for a creative way to improve your immunity and make your diet more exciting? Search no further – our delicious and easy-to-make smoothies just might be what you’re after.

When you think about looking after your immune system, you might immediately jump to vitamin C – and then to oranges. However, while vitamin C does help maintain your immunity, it might interest you to know that there are loads of other fruits and vegetables – packed with an array of amazing nutrients – that can support your immune health. Let’s take a closer look at some of them, and see how you can add them to your diet with simple and delicious smoothies!

Five immunity-boosting foods

The list of immunity-supporting fresh foods is long. You have a lot of choices. To make things easier, here are five that make a perfect addition to healthy dishes and immunity-boosting smoothies.

1. Citrus fruits – Oranges are not the only ones loaded with vitamin C; almost all citrus fruits contain this super vitamin. From blood oranges, grapefruits and lemons, to tangerines and clementines – you have an array of citrus options for when you want to add vitamin C to your diet – and smoothies!

2. Ginger – this zingy root adds a huge flavour bang to any dish – whether it’s a curry, soup, lemon tea or fresh smoothie. Best of all, this amazing ingredient helps to decrease inflammation – so, it may help when you have an inflamed, sore throat.

3. Greek yoghurt – what makes Greek yoghurt different from regular yoghurt is that it has more protein and is packed with probiotics. Probiotics contain lactic acid and bacteria, which are naturally part of our gut, and they play an important role in stimulating the immune system. However, be sure to buy plain Greek yoghurt instead of the sugar-loaded flavoured kind. You can sweeten it up with your favourite fruit and a drizzle of honey.

4. Spinach – while spinach is rich in vitamin C, it’s also packed with antioxidants and beta carotene. Your body can transform beta carotene into vitamin A, which contributes to the functioning of the immune system. When consuming spinach, it’s best to do it when it’s fresh rather than cooked, to avoid losing nutrients. Eat it as a tasty salad or turn it into a fresh green smoothie .

5. Turmeric – another ingredient that’s rich in flavour, and especially in colour, is this amazing golden spice. Turmeric is a plant that has a very long history of medicinal use, dating back nearly 4,000 years!* The high concentrations of curcumin – which gives its distinctive colour – helps support your immune system with its anti-inflammatory properties.

How to eat all of this? Easy. Smoothies!
