Start your day with a fresh breakfast and let fun, colourful and healthy morning meals reign supreme

Breakfast – is it the most important meal of the day? A coffee on the go? An elaborate brunch meal with friends? Thankfully, there is no right answer here. Breakfast has evolved over the last few decades to now become an exciting meal that can be whatever you want it to be. The first meal of the day should make you want to jump out of bed and get ready for the jam-packed day ahead. Although, who said breakfast really has to be the first meal of the day?

A brief history of breakfast

Breakfast became normalised as an important morning meal to break the overnight fast in Europe in the 17th century, with research coming out that it is in fact necessary to one’s health. By the 19th century, some wealthy Victorians even had a dedicated room in their home for breakfasting, using the meal as a time for the family members to gather before going about their days.1 Over the last century, cereal became a popular breakfast choice; however, its high sugar levels have now made health-conscious people look to other alternatives.

Today, many people look for uncomplicated, varied, yet nutritious meals full of enjoyment and colour. Whether on the go or consumed in the afternoon, the stigmas around breakfast have largely been removed, meaning you should enjoy whatever type of breakfast works for you, at whatever time suits best!

Nutritious, delicious and colourful

Active, healthy lifestyle seekers want to fuel their bodies with vitamins and minerals in the morning, to sustain themselves throughout the entire day. However, this shouldn’t mean forgoing flavour, or being forced to spend too much time in the kitchen creating a mess before the day has even begun! Plant-based drinks, and experimenting with exciting new superfoods, such as chia seeds, have proliferated in recent years – and for good reason. Don’t stick to the same boring breakfast each day – mix it up with different colours and nutrients to ensure you give your body the full spectrum of vitamins.
