Five easy ways to enjoy an early summer glow

Nutrition & Wellbeing

Taking good care of your skin and glowing with radiance requires more than just a moisturiser. Discover how you can enjoy luminous skin in a few simple steps.

With summer just around the corner, we want our skin to glow with vitality. While skincare plays a role, there are new habits and lifestyle changes that you can easily implement into your day that will boost your glow further.

1. Master your morning skincare routine

Treating your skin with antioxidants in the morning will help protect it from free radicals in the environment. After your morning cleanse and tone, press a few drops of Artistry Intensive Skincare™ Advanced Vitamin C+HA Treatment onto your skin. Vitamin C is renowned for its ability to help plump skin and restore glow, while hyaluronic acid helps to boost hydration and prevent moisture loss. Follow with your usual moisturiser to seal in your glow.

2. Give your face a workout

Use the time at the end of your morning skincare routine for facial exercise. We carry tension around the jawline and mouth area, and a good facial workout will help to relieve it while keeping facial muscles taut and lifted. Tip your head backwards and point your chin towards the ceiling. While you hold the stretch, say the alphabet, allowing your mouth to really emphasise the letters.

3. Feed your skin

The food we eat can either improve or degrade the quality and appearance of our skin. Research1 published last year concluded that foods containing “anti-aging” ingredients such as protein peptides, essential fatty acids and antioxidants support the skin’s natural metabolism and neutralise free radicals. Meanwhile, a further study2 found that a diet rich in sugar and fat causes skin inflammation, which is the major precursor of wrinkles, pigmentation and loss of definition.

Eating a wide variety of minimally processed foods containing fatty acids, protein and antioxidants will not only make you feel healthier, but also help your skin look and feel like healthier, too. Enjoy oily fish, such as salmon, mackerel and sardines, plus berries and dark vegetables, which are bursting with antioxidants and phytonutrients. Give your skin the support it may need in the form of Nutrilite™ Truvivity OxiBeauty™ Bundle , which contains a drink and supplement. This bundle provides copper and vitamin E. Copper contributes to the protection of skin cells from oxidative stress and to normal skin pigmentation. Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.

Additionally, support your diet with a combination of nutricosmetics (nutrition with cosmetic benefits), which provide you with nutrients. These nutrients can support your body against oxidative stress and nurture your skin. Nutrilite™ Nourish Your Beauty Kit contains the Truvivity supplement, drink and Nutrilite Vitamin C Plus. It provides vitamins that support normal collagen formation for the function of the skin to contribute to the normal function of the immune system.

4. Breathe in

Book-ending your day with some simple breathing exercises can help to reduce feelings of anxiety and, in turn, create a more nurturing environment for your skin. Studies3 show that mindful breathing, specifically yoga breathing known as pranayama, can decrease stress and, in doing so, lower inflammation. We know that persistent inflammation in the body can result in decreased collagen and the early onset of lines and wrinkles, so think of a morning and evening breathing ritual as part of your daily skincare regimen.

To ease yourself into pranayama, try this simple method:

  1. Get yourself in a comfortable position, close your eyes and inhale deeply through your nose counting to 3.

  2. Hold your breath until you count to 4.

  3. Exhale through the mouth while counting to 5.

  4. Repeat the exercise 5–10 times. After just a couple of minutes you should already feel calm and more relaxed.

5. Stretch it out

Stretching is a wonderful way to start your day. It eases muscle tension and gives you a few moments just to focus on yourself and how you feel. We know that our skin behaves better when we manage our stress levels well; it becomes clearer, with fewer breakouts and more glow. So, instead of checking your phone upon waking, take a few moments to stretch.

  1. Lower yourself onto your hands and knees with your hands in line with your shoulders and your knees under your hips.

  2. Lift your tailbone and bottom upwards as if your hips are being drawn towards the ceiling.

  3. Straighten your legs as far as they feel comfortable and try to lower your heels onto the floor.

  4. Allow your head to comfortably fall between your arms with your gaze towards your knees. Keep your back as straight as possible.

  5. Hold for up to a minute or for as long as the stretch feels comfortable. Slowly lower down to all-fours and then move into a seated position. Now you’re ready to start your day!
