Planet-friendly ways to celebrate Earth Day

Nutrition & Wellbeing

The demand for a better, greener earth is no longer an option – it’s a necessity. This Earth Day, Nutrilite™ farms want to ensure everyone is doing their part to help our planet.

Earth Day (which is sometimes extended to Earth Week) is a holiday that reminds us to support the protection and preservation of our environment. It is a day that celebrates the planet’s clean natural resources and encourages people to incorporate sustainability into their everyday lives.

The theme for this year’s Earth Day is “Invest In Our Planet” and the spotlight is on global climate change. This year, we are all encouraged to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably).

How did Earth Day get its start?

Earth Day was first observed in the US in 1970. It was founded by Gaylord Nelson, who was at the time a US Senator from the state of Wisconsin. The aim of the new holiday was to educate people and bring awareness to environmental issues.

The founding of Earth Day encouraged a new wave of environmentalism. One of the reasons Nelson created the holiday was because there were no legal or regulatory mechanisms to protect the environment. Nelson saw this and charged his staff with figuring out how to sponsor environmental teach-ins on college campuses nationwide.

Fast forward 20 years and in 1990 the first Global Earth Day was celebrated. Today it is seen as one of the most important celebrated holidays – drawing in over 190 countries. Earth Day is widely recognised as the largest secular observance in the world, marked by more than a billion people every year as a day of action to change human behaviour and create global, national and local policy changes.

How you can help the planet this Earth Day (and every day)!

Small acts of change are all we need to improve the current state of our planet. A simple act, such as using a recyclable water bottle, makes a big difference, as plastic water bottles tend to end up in landfills, which cause plenty of harm to the environment. You can also invest in reusable grocery bags and try to buy foods that come in reusable containers.

Where possible, make your home energy-efficient. You can do this by starting a compost heap, watching out for energy-draining appliances and even drying your clothes and dishes naturally. You can conserve the planet’s resources further by volunteering to clean up around your neighbourhood, carpooling to work, taking shorter showers or having a meat-free Monday.

Here’s what the Nutrilite™ farms are doing – from seed to supplement!

For over 80 years, the Nutrilite™ brand has combined nature and science, creating food supplements with their customers in mind. Nutrilite™ farms are certified organic, under US law, and use only high-quality seeds that are certified to be non-GMO. To grow nutrient-rich plants, no harsh chemicals or pesticides are used. All the plants used for food supplements are grown in rich soil using long-term sustainable farming principles. The soil is replenished by using compost, crop rotation and cover crops. To help the plants grow healthy and strong, natural methods are used to control harmful weeds, insects, and predators.

“Take care of the land. Take care of the people” is a Nutrilite philosophy. The farms provide social programmes for employees and their families, and the employees are all active members of their local communities.
