What is oxidative stress?

Vitamins and Supplements

Uncontrolled oxidative stress can accelerate the ageing process. Take our fun quiz and test how much you know!

Oxidative stress is an imbalance of molecules called free radicals, and antioxidants in the body. Free radicals are produced naturally by our bodies every day, and usually our cells also produce antioxidants, which neutralise the free radicals. Sometimes, though, an imbalance can occur, owing to exposure to stress factors such as air pollution, cigarette smoke, sunlight or pesticides. If our diet is high in simple sugars or lacking in vegetables and fruit, this can also be a factor that leads to an excess of free radicals. Uncontrolled oxidative stress can cause premature ageing, age-related macular degeneration and other conditions.

To make sure you have enough antioxidants to protect the cells from oxidative stress, you can take extra vitamin E. NUTRILITE™ Lecithin E contains an excellent combination of vitamin E (of naturally derived origin) and lecithin. The tasty chewable tablets are sweetened with honey and flavoured with carob – making them a great easy-to-take daily supplement!
